Our History
First, a little history.
Our distillery was founded by Hans Backhoff and Yocelyn Biancamano in 2018. Both have extensive experience in winemaking, which translated very well into the production of distilled spirits.
Hans is the CEO of Monte Xanic, Mexico's third-largest vineyard, founded by his father in 1987. Under Hans Jr.'s direction, Monte Xanic has grown to be internationally recognized as a producer of premium wine and as a technical innovator in viticulture and winemaking in Mexico. Hans is a master winemaker, trained in food engineering, who trained at Chateau Lafite Rothschild in France and most recently served as president of the Mexican Viticulture Council.
Meanwhile, Yoz is known for her sustainability practices that have contributed to the rise of organic and biodynamic winemaking in Mexico. Yoz helped build from scratch the first certified organic and biodynamic winery in Mexico, located here in the Valle de Guadalupe. She subsequently helped other wineries establish organic system plans, specifically at Finca la Carodilla, La Lomita, and Monte Xanic.
Yoz and Hans have been family friends for decades. They decided to found DESTILERIA REVES one day while drinking whisky at sunset over the Pacific Ocean. They were surprised by the lack of spirits in Mexico made with ingredients other than agave. Specifically, they saw a lack of spirits made with corn, considering that corn is the base of Mexican gastronomy. So they decided to create the first Mexican distillery focused entirely on corn.
Together, Yoz and Hans draw on a long tradition and oenological expertise that allows us at DESTILERIA REVES to produce premium, unique, and exquisite corn-based spirits.
